EDF-2026 and the CBRN Decontamination Demand Signal

Why the EU Defence Fund's EUR 15M CBRN decontamination call reads as a direct demand signal for bleed-air dry decontamination — and how BLIS-D aligns on six of seven requirements.

The European Defence Fund call EDF-2026-RA-MCBRN-DST ("CBRN decontamination systems and technologies") puts roughly EUR 15M behind a single proposition: armies need decontamination that is simple, safe, reliable, uses minimal water, leverages catalysts and UV, avoids damaging equipment, rides on unmanned platforms, neutralises agents, and treats vehicles, equipment and infrastructure. The call deadline is 29 September 2026.

That requirement list is not abstract to us. It reads as a specification for the platform we are already building.

Six of seven, by design

BLIS-D — our bleed-air-leveraged dry decontamination core — maps directly onto six of the seven stated requirements:

  • Autonomous closed loop (Detect–Map–Decide–Act–Verify), human-in-the-loop limited to one decision gate.
  • Waterless dry decontamination — bleed air at 250–300 °C delivered as a 70–80 °C nozzle spray, zero process water.
  • Four-mode hybrid (NTP, UV-C, ozone) plus an ozone gas-sterilisation chamber.
  • A dual-pressure chamber that protects sensitive electronics while treating surfaces.
  • Unmanned rotary-wing payload integration.
  • Agent neutralisation backed by a Swiss gas-sterilisation lineage.

The seventh requirement — decontamination of vehicles, equipment and infrastructure — we meet on facilities and equipment directly, and extend toward vehicle decontamination through merged intellectual property covering a vehicle-mounted sterilisation mobility (a conditional, not yet proven, extension).

The honest reading

Two caveats matter. First, Korea and Switzerland are not EDF member or associated states for funding purposes; participation runs through a technology-supplier and relationship-partner route rather than direct grant receipt. Second, the alignment figures above are design-level claims to be confirmed against the published call text and against field-measured performance.

What the call confirms is the direction: a major allied funder is paying, now, for exactly the waterless autonomous decontamination capability that NATO's Toxic Trip 23 exercise identified as missing — and that the U.S. Army's 2026 Autonomous Decontamination System request also describes. Three funders pointing at one capability is a demand signal worth reading carefully.
